[2/25] Explore Hollywood’s 42nd Ave on March 29th from 4 to 8 pm. Tour Fly Dragon Spa, sample Kona beer at Popina Swim, and take a free computer class at MacPCX. Other venues include: Aunt Tillie’s, Moon and Sixpence, Escapade Salon, Nectar Cafe, USWC Taekwando. Collect goodies at participating businesses and party after at Velocult. This will be the first of at least three block parties being planned to highlight the many main streets of the Hollywood District. Besides 42nd Avenue, other main streets include Sandy Central (from 37th to 48th), Sandy North-side (49th to 57th), Sandy South-side (28th to 37th), Halsey, and Broadway.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit participating businesses, collect stamps, and join the after party at Velo Cult. The more businesses you visit, the more stamps you collect, the more chances you get to win prizes donated by participating businesses. Businesses along 42nd Ave are encouraged to remain open between 4 and 8 pm, host an open house party at their place of business, enter a prize for raffle, help with promotions through email, Facebook, etc.
Hollywood 42nd Avenue businesses stretches from the North with Eilers Dental on Tillamook to the South with Mio Sushi and 24 HR Fitness on Halsey. In between are Popina, Velo Cult, Ritual Arts, Moon and Sixpence, Aunt Tillie’s, Antique Alley, Sweet Willow, Escapade, I Heart Retro, Portland Urgent Care, USWC Taekwando, Panera’s, and Trader Joe’s to name a few.
In late June, early July will be the Hollywood Blockbuster, featuring a classic summer blockbuster movie at the Hollywood Theatre and more open house parties in participating businesses stretching from 38th Avenue to 48th Avenue. Celebrations will include The Hollywood Burger Bar’s 60th anniversary bash with live music in Kelly Plaza.
Hollywood Hops in October will feature Octoberfest fun and games at the Hollywood Farmers Market featuring local breweries Laurelwood Brewery and Columbia Brewing Company, a week-long scavenger hunt with participating Hollywood Businesses and more open house parties on Hollywood’s North-side.
